About me

Olivia Karp possesses a Master's degree in Global Migration from University College London (UCL). Her master's research focused on the contributions of individual climate mobility advocates and their utilization of social media to counter alarming narratives surrounding climate mobility with evidence-based discourses. Additionally, she holds a second master's degree in International Public Policy from the Balsillie School of International Affairs at Laurier University.

During her time at Laurier, Olivia completed a fellowship with Global Affairs Canada, conducting research and producing a policy brief examining the implications of climate change on migration patterns within the Great Lakes region, encompassing both Canada and the United States. Prior to her master's studies, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Politics and Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson).

Olivia is the founder of The Climate Mobility Community Action Network (CMCAN), a registered organization in Canada that engages in international efforts related to climate mobility and displacement, fostering education, collaboration, and participation. More recently, she established a new enterprise, Act on Climate, which serves as a membership-based online platform designed to connect individuals with the latest job opportunities and resources within the climate sector.

Her professional background includes serving as a focal point for the Migration and Climate Change working group through YOUNGO, as well as holding the position of Climate Mobility Thematic Lead at MYCP, which is affiliated with the Major Group for Children and Youth under the auspices of the United Nations. Furthermore, she has worked as a Junior Researcher at the Climate Displacement Planning Initiative and has recently held the role of Policy and Research Administrator at Boys & Girls Club Dovercourt, where she undertook a range of policy and research initiatives.

Through her involvement in the climate domain, Olivia has had the privilege of speaking at esteemed platforms, including the UN ECOSOC Conference, SB62, COP29, and COP30, in addition to delivering a TEDx talk.
